Ferry across the lake

Brief notes from the prow of a Swiss ferry, including one staring contest with a seagull.

We took the ferry across the lake last weekend. I had concerns at first — boats move in a way that floors, generally, do not — but it turns out that if you station yourself at the prow and maintain a dignified posture, strangers will come up and tell you how handsome you are, which is a very acceptable trade-off for the occasional lurch.

Observations from the prow

The lake is mostly water, which checks out. The mountains on the other side are taller than I expected, but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. A seagull attempted to make eye contact with me about halfway across. I held the stare. The seagull blinked first. Let the record show.

Post-ferry notes

On disembarking I did approximately 11 zoomies in the car park, which I felt was proportional to the emotional weight of the crossing. A lady with an ice cream said I looked like a small polar bear, and this is going straight on the fridge. Would ferry again.
